Junior Mechanical Design Engineer – Armored Vehicles

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our armored‑vehicle engineering team in Pretoria. The role offers a hands‑on opportunity to support the design, development, testing and continuous improvement of vehicle systems and components, working closely with senior engineers and production teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the mechanical design and development of armored‑vehicle components and assemblies.
• Create 3D CAD models, detailed technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Support prototyping, testing and validation activities.
• Participate in design reviews and engineering change processes.
• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and material selection.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and production efficiency.
• Help troubleshoot issues and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality and military standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 0–3 years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software: SolidWorks, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, welding and fabrication.
• Ability to conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and material selection.
