Butchery Manager – Retail Department Lead

About the role

We are a well‑established retail group in KwaZulu‑Natal seeking an experienced Butchery Manager to lead our butchery department in the Margate/Shelly Beach area. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day operations, profitability, hygiene compliance and delivering top‑notch customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the butchery department.
• Supervise, train and lead butchery staff.
• Ensure correct cutting, preparation and attractive display of meat products.
• Monitor stock levels, place orders and rotate stock efficiently.
• Control waste, shrinkage and gross profit margins.
• Maintain strict food safety and hygiene standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service and uphold department presentation.
• Drive sales through promotional activities and upselling.

Required profile

• 3–5 years experience as a Butchery Manager or Senior Butchery Supervisor.
• Strong retail butchery background (non‑negotiable).
• Proven experience managing staff and departmental performance.
• Knowledge of stock control, gross profit management and shrinkage control.
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
• Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends.
• Based in KZN (Margate/Shelly Beach) or ready to relocate.
