Admitted Attorney – Divorce & Family Law Litigation (Pretoria)

About the role

Martin Vermaak Attorneys is seeking an admitted attorney to join its Pretoria office. The successful candidate will work on high‑conflict divorce and family law matters, providing litigation support and client guidance across a range of court appearances.

Key responsibilities

• Manage divorce and family law cases from initial consultation through to final resolution.
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, settlement agreements, parenting plans and other court documents.
• Prepare and appear in maintenance, domestic‑violence, Children’s Court and divorce proceedings, including High Court matters when required.
• Conduct legal research, develop case strategy and negotiate settlements.
• Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, experts and court officials while maintaining accurate case records.

Required profile

• At least three years of post‑admission experience in divorce and family law.
• Proven court experience in maintenance, domestic‑violence, Children’s Court and divorce litigation.
• Ability to manage a busy caseload, provide clear client advice and work independently.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with a disciplined, results‑driven approach.

Required skills

• Legal research and drafting of family‑law pleadings.
• Court advocacy in Magistrates’, Children’s, Maintenance, Domestic‑Violence and High Courts.
• Case management and client liaison.
