Turbine Resident Engineer

About the role

The Turbine Resident Engineer provides technical leadership for steam turbine assets, supporting the customer in identifying risks, solving problems, and improving plant performance and availability. The role combines on‑site inspections, reporting, and expert advice to ensure reliable turbine operation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive plant walk‑downs and visual inspections of turbines and auxiliary systems.
• Prepare and submit monthly technical reports to the client.
• Participate in quarterly technical meetings with other Eskom power stations.
• Provide emergency consultation during unplanned turbine failures.
• Inform the client of new engineering designs and fleet experience, delivering reports at least every six months.
• Assist in drafting technical specifications for turbine component refurbishments.
• Deliver turbine‑related training and technology transfer to client engineers.
• Act as the communication channel with the OEM for technical matters.
• Update GE Vernova documentation and ensure correct application of operating and maintenance procedures.
• Identify and optimise spare parts inventories for planned overhauls.
• Define maintenance scopes, recommend outage work, and investigate turbine occurrences.

Required profile

• Strong technical product knowledge of steam turbines.
• Analytical skills and adherence to engineering principles, standards, and procedures.
• Ability to produce detailed technical reports and documentation.
• Experience in providing training and technical support to client personnel.
