Trainee TSSU Technician – Central Decontamination Unit

About the role

The Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) will support the Central Decontamination Unit (CDU) at Cowlairs, handling the cleaning, assembly, packaging and sterilisation of reusable medical devices. The role offers full training and the opportunity to become multi‑skilled across all CDU zones.

Key responsibilities

• Decontaminate and clean reusable medical instruments.
• Assemble instrument sets, ensuring all required components are included.
• Package and check devices before sterilisation.
• Operate sterilisation equipment safely and accurately.
• Rotate through all CDU zones as part of a multi‑skilled workforce.
• Contribute to the reprocessing of approximately 12 million instruments per year.

Required profile

• Essential knowledge of decontamination processes.
• Prior experience in a similar setting is advantageous.
• Good general education, including literacy, numeracy and manual dexterity.
• Willingness to undertake full training in decontamination, assembly, checking, packaging and sterilisation.
