Technical Buyer – East Rand

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Buyer to lead the end‑to‑end technical evaluation and sourcing of mining equipment components, spare parts, and specialised items. The role bridges Procurement, Engineering, Aftermarket and Production, ensuring technical requirements are accurately interpreted and delivered.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical sourcing within cross‑functional project teams and qualify suppliers for project components.
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications and bills of materials to ensure compliance with engineering and mining standards.
• Identify obsolete parts, source validated alternatives and maintain an alternatives database.
• Act as liaison between Procurement, Engineering and Projects, communicating risks, timelines and mitigation plans.
• Conduct technical discussions with suppliers, facilitate visits and audits, and document progress.
• Analyse cost‑saving and lead‑time reduction opportunities and support should‑cost analysis during negotiations.
• Maintain complete technical sourcing documentation and provide regular updates to the Procurement Officer.
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards and support risk mitigation.
• Evaluate suppliers, initiate corrective actions for under‑performers and support onboarding of new suppliers.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12 and a National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• CIPS Level 4 certification.
• 3–5 years of technical procurement experience in the mining sector.
• Proven experience sourcing mining components and spare parts.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
