Technical Advisor – Strategic Planning & Economic Transformation

About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Regional Bureau for Africa’s Strategy, Analysis and Research Team, Technical Advisors provide high‑level advisory services to countries across Africa. They support strategic planning, structural economic transformation, public finance management, development financing, access to sustainable energy and regional trade, while also contributing to research, analysis and partnership building.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare clear, evidence‑driven analyses of complex development challenges and deliver practical policy options to senior government officials.
• Undertake regular reviews of key trends shaping national and regional development outcomes in African countries and regions.
• Develop position papers for UNDP and African leaders on the impact of global geostrategic shocks on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Required profile

• Demonstrated proficiency in at least one thematic area such as strategic planning, structural economic transformation, development financing, sustainable energy access or regional trade.
• Experience providing technical advisory services, conducting research and analysis, and maintaining networks with multilateral, bilateral and private‑sector partners.
