Tailings Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Tailings Engineer to join its Mine Waste team in Midrand on a full‑time basis. The role supports mining clients by delivering geotechnical and tailings services across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailings and geotechnical consultancy on mining projects.
• Design, inspect and assess mine waste storage facilities, including tailings deposits and water storage dams.
• Analyse tailings behaviour, stability, seepage and closure requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, data collection and analysis for decision‑making.
• Support health, safety and environmental (HSSE) reporting and leadership.
• Develop internal client relationships and contribute to business development.
• Participate in project management activities and professional development.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering (or related Geotechnical degree) with 3‑4 years post‑graduation experience.
• Registration with ECSA preferred.
• Knowledge of engineering legislation for water use and waste management licences.
• Understanding of financial concepts such as work‑in‑progress, accounts receivable and DSO.
• Proven ability to lead integrated mine‑waste projects and manage project delivery.
