Social Work Supervisor

About the role

The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising Social Workers to promote and maintain optimum standards of efficiency and quality of professional social work in line with Joburg Child Welfare’s objectives. Joburg Child Welfare is a non‑profit organization dedicated to protecting vulnerable children across South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and updating organisational policies and ensure staff are aware of and comply with them.
• Supervise Social Workers and Social Auxiliary Workers, conduct regular supervision sessions, allocate workloads and monitor case progress.
• Conduct performance reviews, support staff development through training and mentorship, and manage leave processes.
• Handle administrative duties such as reviewing reports, managing correspondence, and maintaining accurate records.
• Arrange and attend case conferences, respond to ministerial enquiries, and approve case closures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
• Valid driver’s licence and at least 3–5 years of relevant social work experience.
• Supervisory experience is advantageous; minimum six months of driving experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Children’s Act and related legislation.
