Site Engineering Manager

About the role

Unilever is seeking a Site Engineering Manager for its Maydon Wharf Factory in Durban. The role oversees engineering maintenance, projects, utilities and plant infrastructure, driving improvements that meet performance targets while ensuring reliable operation of all assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Professional Maintenance pillar of the Unilever Manufacturing System, aiming for zero breakdowns and cost‑efficient asset reliability.
• Manage technical and maintenance teams delivering projects, innovations, infrastructure upgrades and site services.
• Drive the execution of approved capital projects from post‑approval through to hand‑over, following Early Equipment Management principles.
• Ensure safety, quality and statutory compliance across all maintenance and project activities, including PHA, HAZOP and MDSAS studies.
• Improve maintenance performance metrics such as MTBF, MTTR and overall equipment efficiency while optimizing spare‑parts inventory.
• Lead sustainability initiatives to enhance energy, water, steam and treatment systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience in engineering maintenance and project management within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Track record of delivering capital projects on time and within budget.
• Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
