Sessional Professional Nurse (Grade 1‑3) – 20 hrs/week

About the role

This sessional position provides primary health care across the Drakenstein Sub‑district. It is a 20‑hour per week contract lasting until 31 March 2029, with duties performed in hospitals, mobile units and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver primary health care services in line with Western Cape guidelines and protocols.
• Maintain accurate clinical records, statistical registers and referral documentation.
• Utilise resources and stock efficiently within limited budget constraints.
• Participate in community health events and promote awareness of health‑related issues.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff while supporting inter‑professional teamwork.

Required profile

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Experience requirements vary by grade: none for Grade 1, 10 years for Grade 2, 20 years for Grade 3 in general nursing.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence and willingness to work at multiple facilities within the sub‑district.
• Prepared to work in mobile, hospital and community settings as needed.

Required skills

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Knowledge of relevant nursing legislation, policies and basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to promote quality patient care through implementation of protocols, guidelines and standards.

What we offer

• Hourly rates: R223 (Grade 1), R272 (Grade 2), R327 (Grade 3).
• Fixed‑term contract until 31 March 2029, 20 hours per week.
