Senior Lawyer – Johannesburg

About the role

We are looking for a pragmatic and detail‑oriented Legal Specialist to support BYD’s growing operations in Johannesburg. You will work closely with the regional legal team to manage distributor relations, ensure labor compliance, and navigate the local regulatory landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Handle legal matters regarding Johannesburg distributors and review commercial agreements to protect company interests.
• Participate in day‑to‑day legal activities and operational management of BYD’s Johannesburg subsidiaries.
• Manage employment contracts and ensure full compliance with Johannesburg labor law through the Qiwa and Mudad platforms.
• Coordinate with external law firms on regulatory matters, focusing on the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) and other compliance frameworks.
• Monitor local legislative updates and provide clear interpretations of new policies and their business impact.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a Saudi university.
• 2+ years of legal experience in a corporate in‑house role or law firm.
• Professional proficiency in English and Arabic for drafting, reviewing documents and communicating with authorities.
• Experience in the automotive or high‑tech sectors is highly preferred.
• Saudi national or willing to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
• Adaptable, able to work in a fast‑paced, cross‑cultural environment.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of the Qiwa government portal.
• Practical knowledge of the Mudad government portal.
• Understanding of Saudi corporate and labor regulations.
• Familiarity with the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) compliance requirements.
