Resident Engineer – Underground Chrome Mine

About the role

The Resident Engineer is accountable for the engineering function of an underground chrome mining operation, ensuring safe, reliable and cost‑effective performance of all mechanical, electrical and infrastructure systems. Reporting to the General Manager/Mine Manager, the role carries legal responsibility under the Mine Health and Safety Act and provides strategic engineering leadership to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic engineering leadership aligned with mine production and business objectives.
• Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards and company policies (MHSA).
• Oversee maintenance strategies for underground and surface equipment, implementing preventive and predictive programmes.
• Collaborate with mining, geology and production teams to support schedule delivery and breakdown response.
• Manage engineering CAPEX projects, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery.
• Develop and control engineering OPEX and CAPEX budgets, identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
• Lead, coach and develop engineering staff and manage contractor performance.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Mines & Works) – essential.
• Relevant experience in underground mining engineering and asset management.
• Proven leadership and people‑development capabilities.
