Personal Lines Underwriter

About the role

Our client, an established insurance company, is seeking an experienced Personal Lines Underwriter to join their dynamic team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to deepen underwriting expertise and advance your career within a respected organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare new business quotes and underwrite in line with company standards, policies and procedures.
• Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
• Process and verify all documentation accurately before dispatch.
• Negotiate renewal terms, prepare renewal documentation and ensure timely renewal reviews.
• Calculate retentions and monitor survey requirements according to procedures.
• Identify and correct unprofitable policies to avoid over‑exposure.
• Respond to client queries via telephone and ensure high‑quality service delivery.
• Maintain electronic records of all work and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.

Required profile

• Matric NQF 5 and Short‑Term Insurance Regulatory Exam Level 1.
• Minimum of four years’ experience underwriting personal lines insurance.
• Proven ability to assess risk, calculate retentions and manage policy renewals.
