Optimization Engineer

About the role

Join a global telecom leader as an Optimization Engineer, responsible for designing, tuning and optimizing 2G/3G/4G/5G radio access networks. You will work closely with customers and vendors to ensure high‑performance networks and support service delivery across South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead RAN design and dimensioning aligned with customer requirements.
• Plan and execute RF optimization to improve KPIs such as throughput, coverage and latency.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of performance issues and resolve outages.
• Engage with customers to propose technical improvements and present reports.
• Prepare proposals, optimization plans and performance documentation.
• Conduct site acceptance, verification and drive‑test benchmarking.
• Configure and validate RAN parameters using OSS/NMS tools.
• Support feature rollouts, refarming, upgrades and integration projects.
• Estimate service costs and define scopes of work for proposals.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge.
• Participate in on‑call support and ensure compliance with operational processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on RAN experience in vendor or operator environments.
• Strong stakeholder management and customer‑focused mindset.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• RAN design, optimization and performance management.
• RF planning and drive‑test tools (Atoll, TEMS, Actix, Nemo).
• Experience with Ericsson, Huawei or Nokia OSS/NMS platforms.
• Knowledge of 5G technologies (NR, EN‑DC, SA/NSA, MIMO).
• Data analysis and automation using Python, SQL and Excel.
