Operations Manager – Retail

About the role

We are seeking an Operations Manager for our retail store in Umhlanga, Durban. The role involves planning, directing and coordinating overall store operations to meet and exceed business objectives, targets and customer service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage staff to ensure stock is accurately received, unpacked, merchandised and replenished on the sales floor.
• Monitor and manage stock levels through defined processes (stock counts, stock takes, stock loss action plans) to mitigate risks and ensure adequate stock on hand.
• Oversee overall maintenance of the stockroom to meet housekeeping standards.
• Authorize write‑offs, breakages, recalls and returns.
• Analyse sales and profitability reports to collaborate with management on operational action plans, increase sales performance and monitor store expenditure.
• Review in‑store product performance and provide feedback to the support centre to enhance sales.
• Identify and propose new opportunities to increase sales and brand awareness, including marketing, competitor shopping, local events and driving new accounts or memberships.
• Conduct compliance checks through defined processes to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
• Ensure implementation of customer experience processes to meet service standards.
• Lead the team to achieve store KPIs and operational strategy in line with company values.
• Identify and drive training, coaching and development needs with focus on talent management and succession planning.
• Recruit, administer and manage performance in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Matric and Business Management Diploma or Degree.
• 4–8 years’ experience in fashion retail, including managerial experience.
• Knowledge of sales and service management, budgeting and forecasting, computer literacy, communication skills and business understanding of retail trade, brand, customer and product.
