About the role
The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) works as a clinical assistant within the emergency medical care and rescue environment, serving as the entry qualification for emergency medical services. Reporting to Emergency Care Technicians, Practitioners and Medical Officers, the ECA provides supportive pre‑hospital care in diverse settings such as rural, urban, coastal and mass‑gathering locations.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure operational readiness for emergency calls.
- Administer patient care within the defined scope of practice.
- Report near‑misses, slips, and adverse events.
- Promote and maintain a positive public image of ER24.
Required profile
- Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care (essential).
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (desired).
- No prior experience required (essential).
- One‑year operational experience as an Emergency Care Assistant (desired).
Required skills
- Application of best practice in EMS.
- Understanding of EMS environment and geographical routes.
- Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
- Knowledge of HPCSA guidelines and scope of practice.
- Ability to complete patient report forms accurately.
