Mining Activity Engineer (Open Cast)

About the role

The Mining Activity Engineer supports the Section Manager Planning by developing designs, schedules and reports for major open‑cast mining activities at the Klipspruit New Largo site. The role combines technical planning, data reconciliation and cross‑departmental coordination to ensure safe and efficient production.

Key responsibilities

• Compile designs, detailed plans and short‑term schedules for major mining activities.
• Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations to meet compliance reporting.
• Provide data for weekly marketing and management plans.
• Assist in creating presentations for weekly review and monthly planning meetings.
• Liaise with other Activity Engineers to integrate mine plans.
• Coordinate with Survey, Geology, Environmental, Mining, Metallurgy and Engineering departments.
• Support the annual budget and life‑of‑mine (LOM) processes.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering or recognised opencast mining qualifications.
• Minimum 6 years mining experience, including 2 years in a supervisory or planning officer role.
• Experience with mine‑planning software such as 3D‑dig, Microstation, Dragsim and Deswik.
• Knowledge of opencast mining activities (pit design, drill & blast, pre‑stripping, dragline, truck & shovel, coaling) and equipment performance.
• Understanding of mining legislation and safety standards.
• Strong analytical, budgeting and communication abilities.
• Valid driver’s licence, own transport and ability to obtain a Certificate of Fitness.
