Miner – Mining Operations

About the role

The Miner will lead a mining crew in Secunda, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of safety, health and environmental compliance. Reporting to the Shift Boss, the role involves planning, organising and controlling daily underground mining activities and acting as relieving Shift Boss when required.

Key responsibilities

• Manage crew to achieve production targets and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Oversee safety, health and environmental issues, conduct statutory inspections and risk assessments.
• Perform start‑ and end‑of‑shift inspections, fire patrols and monthly rescue drills.
• Maintain accurate operator records, licences and SAP inputs for time, attendance and material orders.
• Represent the Shift Boss in Operational Excellence meetings and transfer knowledge to other miners and artisans.
• Ensure availability of mining materials and resources, request supplies and monitor waste.
• Lead performance meetings, manage crew attendance and develop training plans.
• Act as relieving Shift Boss when required and address audit findings.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead a mining crew and meet production KPIs.
• Strong commitment to safety, health and environmental standards.
• Valid mining operator licence and ability to conduct statutory inspections.
• Experience in planning, organising and controlling underground mining operations.
• Good communication skills to represent the shift in meetings and train team members.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SAP for time‑keeping, attendance and material ordering.
