Mechanical Engineering Manager – Lead Design Team

About the role

The Mechanical Engineering Manager provides operational and technical oversight of the mechanical design function, ensuring that all designs, drawings and specifications meet client requirements, company standards and international regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of mechanical designers and draughtsmen.
• Oversee the mechanical design process from works order to final drawings, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with client and international standards.
• Act as primary technical contact for Production and Sales, resolving queries and supporting on‑floor operations.
• Ensure project timelines are met, coordinate material ordering and maintain resource availability.
• Uphold quality systems and verify that all designs meet ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 requirements.

Required profile

• Experience in performance management, training and development of engineering staff.
• Ability to recruit, motivate and discipline personnel, and to plan succession.
• Familiarity with Employment Equity and Skills Development programmes.

Required skills

• Mechanical design and CAD proficiency.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 standards.
