Maintenance Technician – Pet Food Manufacturing (New Zealand)

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Technician to support a pet‑food extrusion plant in New Zealand. The role involves keeping production equipment safe, reliable and compliant through preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis and corrective repairs. You will work on a shift schedule and be called upon for breakdowns, shutdowns and changeovers.

Key responsibilities

• Execute assigned preventive maintenance tasks (inspection, lubrication, adjustments, wear checks) and record results in the Limble CMMS.
• Perform routine inspections, identify abnormalities such as noise, vibration, heat, leaks and report them early.
• Respond to equipment faults, diagnose root causes and carry out repairs within your trade scope.
• Escalate specialised electrical, instrumentation or safety‑critical issues to the appropriate team.
• Coordinate with other trades and contractors, verify repairs through functional checks and support trial runs.
• Follow LOTO, permit‑to‑work and GMP/hygienic maintenance procedures, ensuring contamination control and proper housekeeping.
• Complete machine handover steps, including safety checks, guard reinstatement and documentation.
• Close work orders accurately with details of actions, parts, labour time and supporting photos; provide clear shift handover notes.

Required profile

• Full‑time availability with flexibility for shift work, breakdowns and plant shutdowns.
• Strong commitment to safety, LOTO and permit compliance.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail for accurate CMMS documentation and handover reporting.

Required skills

• Preventive maintenance techniques for mechanical equipment.
• Mechanical troubleshooting and corrective repair.
• Experience using a CMMS (Limble or similar).
• Knowledge of LOTO and permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Understanding of GMP/hygienic maintenance practices.
• Basic electrical, instrumentation or controls awareness.
