Legal Counsel – Commercial & Regulatory

About the role

The Legal Counsel will be the backbone of our site portfolio, handling all contractual and regulatory matters. You will work directly with senior executives and daily with operations, construction, finance, and external legal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate operator leases, co‑location and new‑build sublease agreements, managing version control through to signature.
• Conduct due diligence on ground leases, verify title, rights to erect structures and record outcomes in the site management system.
• Manage landlord and property portfolio, including new ground leases, renewals, and correspondence with landowners.
• Track regulatory, permitting and statutory compliance for each site, liaising with municipalities and consultants.
• Handle corporate governance tasks such as company secretarial work, contract registers and support for financing and ESG requirements.
• Draft and review construction, supplier and consultancy agreements and manage dispute resolution with external counsel.

Required profile

• LLB degree from a recognised university and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• 3–6 years post‑qualification experience, primarily in commercial property, leasing or related litigation/conveyancing.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage a high volume of near‑identical documents.
• Independent work style with strong deadline management and a valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Word (styles, cross‑references, track changes).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with document‑management systems.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted drafting tools (recommended).

What we offer

• Salary ranging from R35 000 to R40 000 per month.
• 21 annual leave days and a discretionary bonus.
