Junior Tailings Engineer

About the role

WSP is looking for a Junior Tailings Engineer to join its Mine Waste team in Midrand on a full‑time basis. The role is entry‑level within the consulting stream, supporting the delivery of tailings and geotechnical services for mining projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist intermediate and senior staff in data collection, processing, and analysis for tailings and geotechnical investigations.
• Contribute to report sections describing investigations, results and analysis.
• Provide technical advice on moderate‑complex tailings issues, including design, inspection, construction, operation, and closure of mine waste storage facilities.
• Apply advanced techniques to synthesize and interpret data for decision‑making and recommendations.
• Support health and safety compliance and participate in training activities.

Required profile

• Relevant degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering.
• At least 3 years post‑graduation experience with specialist knowledge in tailings and geotechnical engineering.
• Ability to work under direction, make basic decisions with guidance, and take ownership of tasks.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn, receive feedback and develop professionally.
