IT Project Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced IT Project Accountant to provide financial oversight for technology and business‑transformation initiatives. You will work closely with Technology, Finance, Procurement, Accounts Payable and the Transformation Office to deliver clear, commercially relevant insights for senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain initiative budgets, forecasts and approved cost baselines, monitoring actuals, commitments and accruals.
• Reconcile expenditure across finance and programme systems, resolve discrepancies and maintain robust audit trails.
• Analyse technology spend across suppliers, platforms, licences, cloud services and internal resources, distinguishing between transformation, capital and operating costs.
• Prepare concise financial reporting for governance forums, providing commentary on budget, forecasts, benefits, risks and required actions.
• Partner with initiative owners to develop accurate monthly forecasts and ensure changes are reflected in finance and programme systems.

Required profile

• A recognised professional accountancy qualification (CIMA/CGMA, CA(SA), ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent).
• At least five years of finance experience with significant exposure to project accounting and technology finance.
• Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and general‑ledger reconciliations.
• Understanding of accounting treatment for technology expenditure, including capital vs operating, software implementation and cloud arrangements.
• Experience working with ERP, planning or portfolio‑management systems.

• Advanced Excel and financial‑modelling skills.
• ERP systems (experience with planning or portfolio‑management platforms).
• Coupa, Tagetik or Shibumi finance/programme‑management platforms.
• Power BI or comparable reporting and visualisation tools.
