Investment Associate – Telecommunications & IT

About the role

Our client, a leading investment bank, is seeking a Senior Investment Associate to join its Telecommunications investment banking team in Johannesburg. The role will focus on advising pan‑African telecom operators, digital infrastructure owners and technology companies on M&A, equity and debt transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Originating and developing client relationships across telecom operators, infrastructure owners and financial sponsors.
• Preparing pitch books, sector thought pieces and business‑development presentations.
• Screening and evaluating new M&A and capital‑raising mandates.
• Building and reviewing financial and valuation models, including tower and fibre cash‑flow analysis and infrastructure‑style returns.
• Drafting information memoranda, teasers and other transaction marketing materials.
• Supporting negotiations and coordinating with legal, technical and regulatory advisers throughout execution.
• Managing transactions from origination to completion, covering sell‑side and buy‑side M&A as well as equity and debt raisings.
• Mentoring junior team members and contributing to firm‑wide business‑development initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of investment banking or corporate finance experience.
• Demonstrated transaction experience within telecommunications, digital infrastructure or TMT sectors.
• Strong technical capabilities in financial analysis, valuation and transaction structuring.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deals in a fast‑paced environment.
