International Payments and Costing Accountant

About the role

The International Payments and Costing Accountant is responsible for the financial side of the company’s global supply chain. Working closely with overseas suppliers, banks, customs authorities and internal teams, the role ensures accurate costing of imported inventory, timely international payments and compliance with South African Reserve Bank and customs regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Process and manage foreign supplier payments in line with company policies and international banking requirements.
• Calculate and maintain foreign‑currency inventory costings, allocating all import‑related costs to stock.
• Manage foreign‑exchange contracts and monitor currency exposures to support cash‑flow and cost control.
• Record and reconcile accounting transactions for the China office and other overseas entities.
• Prepare and reconcile overseas supplier accounts, resolving queries and discrepancies.
• Calculate, process and reconcile Customs VAT and other import‑related charges.
• Manage marine insurance requirements for imported shipments.
• Maintain importation documentation and ensure compliance with exchange‑control regulations, including South African Reserve Bank applications.
• Process general‑ledger, supplier and inventory journals, as well as Goods Received Vouchers (GRVs).
• Maintain data in FileMaker, the company’s in‑house inventory and stock management system.
• Implement, monitor and improve internal controls for international transactions, inventory and financial processes.

Required profile

• Experience in accounting or finance within an international procurement or supply‑chain environment.
• Familiarity with South African Reserve Bank regulations, customs procedures and foreign‑exchange management.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with multiple stakeholders across borders.
