Insurance Underwriter – Commercial (Durban)

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Insurance Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Durban. The role focuses on evaluating commercial insurance applications, issuing policies, and supporting risk‑management decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Assess commercial insurance applications and analyse risk factors.
• Develop, negotiate and issue policies and endorsements in line with underwriting guidelines.
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Stay informed on market developments and emerging risks.
• Collaborate with claims teams on underwriting‑related matters.
• Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and policy documentation.
• Provide timely, professional responses to client and broker enquiries.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
• 2–5 years of experience in commercial underwriting, preferably within short‑term insurance.
• Relevant insurance or underwriting qualifications (e.g., NQF Level 4, RE5 or equivalent).
