Graduate Internship Programme 2027/29 – 24‑Month Placement

About the role

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs is recruiting unemployed South African graduates for its 2027/29 Graduate Internship Programme. This is a 24‑month, on‑site internship designed to give practical workplace experience across a wide range of sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Office support and administrative duties for MEC and HOD offices.
• Risk and integrity management, internal audit, and monitoring & evaluation.
• Public entities oversight, strategic planning, and intergovernmental relations.
• Finance, budgeting, asset and supply‑chain management, and internal control.
• Human resource management, employee health & wellness, and facilities/fleet management.
• Information technology, telecommunications, communications & marketing, and registry services.
• Small business development, co‑operatives, economic empowerment, business regulation and consumer protection.
• Tourism development, industrial interventions, agribusiness, trade & investment promotion, forestry, and creative economy initiatives.
• District operations, research & modelling, knowledge management, economic analysis, statistics, and policy & planning.
• Environmental management services.

Required profile

• 3‑year degree (NQF 7), Advanced Diploma (NQF 7), National Diploma (NQF 6) or Honours/Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8) from a recognised institution.
• Must be an unemployed South African graduate.
• Must not have previously benefited from any government (national/provincial/municipal) internship programme.
