General Manager – Public Safety and Protection Services

About the role

The General Manager of Public Safety and Protection Services will lead the municipality’s safety initiatives, overseeing policy development, budget management and inter‑departmental collaboration to ensure a secure environment for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide input into the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) to embed critical safety strategies.
• Establish standards and guidelines for the Public Safety & Protection department.
• Manage the capital and operational budget, monitoring costs and project progress.
• Develop and implement systems, policies and by‑laws for safety and protection services.
• Ensure compliance with municipal policies, relevant legislation and the Firearms Control Act.
• Oversee timely processing of complaints, legal and financial claims.
• Facilitate inter‑departmental and multi‑stakeholder collaboration on safety matters.

Required profile

• Degree in Traffic Police/Metro Police, Police Management or an equivalent qualification.
• Valid Code B/EB driver’s licence.
• No criminal record.
• Computer literate.
• At least ten years of experience, with a minimum of five years in middle‑management level.
• Eligible to be appointed as the responsible person under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
