Enrolled Nurse – Theatre – Somerset West

About the role

The Enrolled Nurse will provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in the operating theatre, working under the supervision of a doctor. The role involves preparing the theatre, assisting during surgeries, and maintaining a sterile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care according to the Enrolled Nurse scope of practice.
• Prepare the operating theatre, manage stock, and replenish instruments for each procedure list.
• Maintain aseptic technique when opening packs and consumables.
• Assist the anaesthetist during induction of anaesthesia and support the doctor throughout operations.
• Handle equipment, instruments, medication, and supplies safely and competently.
• Communicate patient status changes to healthcare practitioners and ensure accurate documentation.
• Conduct risk prevention and management when positioning or transferring patients.
• Audit health records for compliance and manage stock control.
• Uphold a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment in line with occupational safety regulations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Enrolled Nurse qualification with current registration on the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Minimum five years experience as an Enrolled Nurse, including post‑operative, floor nursing, and anaesthetic support.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, patient safety, and infection control.
• Problem‑solving ability, resilience, and professional flexibility in working hours.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
