Elementary Special Education Teacher (ASD)

About the role

The Lamphere Schools district is seeking a full‑time Elementary Teacher specialized in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to join Hiller Elementary. The teacher will deliver individualized instruction, support student development, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to meet state standards and IEP goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective, individualized instruction addressing academic, social, behavioral, and physical needs of students with autism.
• Facilitate student progress toward Extended Grade Level Standards and monitor IEP objectives.
• Offer personal care support as needed and maintain accurate lesson plans, attendance, and performance records.
• Communicate regularly with parents, administrators, and general‑education staff about student progress.
• Participate in a trans‑disciplinary service model with occupational therapists, speech‑language pathologists, psychologists, and other specialists.
• Prepare and submit Medicaid billing documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
• Implement emergency seclusion and restraint procedures after completing Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI/CPI) training.

Required profile

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or enrollment in an approved teacher preparation program.
• Endorsement in Autism or willingness to obtain the endorsement.
• Familiarity with accommodations, instructional strategies, and assessment procedures for students with disabilities.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and reliable attendance record.
• Background in child development, especially language, communication, and cognition, is preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms).
• Experience using online sourcing tools and internet search platforms.
• Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques.
