Electrical Engineer – Substation Protection, Telecommunication & Control

About the role

We are a well‑established engineering consultancy specializing in electrical power systems, looking for an Electrical Engineer to focus on substation Protection, Telecommunication, Measurement and Control (PTM&C). The role is based in Centurion and involves designing and delivering secondary plant solutions for high‑voltage substations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement secondary systems (protection, telecommunications, metering and control) in substations.
• Review and develop substation secondary plant schemes for both private‑sector (IPP) and national‑grid projects.
• Prepare and review technical specifications and application drawings.
• Conduct system studies such as fault analysis, grid impact assessments and protection setting calculations.
• Ensure designs comply with IEC, SANS, NRS and client standards.
• Provide technical input during procurement of control and protection equipment.
• Witness FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
• Produce technical documentation, reports and as‑built records.

Required profile

• B.Tech, B.Sc or B.Eng in Electrical Engineering.
• 2–5 years of experience in protection and control within high‑voltage substations.
• Proficiency with design and simulation tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, DIgSILENT and ETAP.
• Experience in SCADA integration, metering scheme design, protection setting calculations and substation automation design.
