About the role
We are looking for a motivated Commis Chef to join the kitchen team at a leading hotel in Midrand. The role involves preparing a variety of hot and cold dishes, maintaining food quality standards, and supporting the culinary team during busy periods.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare special meals and substitute items according to recipes.
- Regulate temperatures of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters.
- Thaw frozen items in refrigeration and ensure proper portioning and garnish.
- Maintain food logs and monitor quality and quantity of prepared dishes.
- Communicate assistance needs and inform the Chef of excess items for daily specials.
- Notify service staff of menu specials and out‑of‑stock items.
- Prepare and cook foods following quality, presentation and safety standards, including cold food preparation.
- Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling and employee coaching.
- Follow all safety, security and company policies, report incidents and maintain a clean work environment.
Required profile
- Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lb.
- Willingness to work in a fast‑paced kitchen and follow detailed recipes and procedures.
- Professional appearance, confidentiality and a commitment to teamwork.
