Chief Financial Officer (Municipal)

About the role

The municipality seeks a senior finance professional to lead the Budget and Treasury office, ensuring sound financial management and compliance with the MFMA. The role reports directly to the Municipal Manager and involves strategic oversight of all financial functions.

Key responsibilities

• Overall management of the Budget and Treasury office, including staff supervision.
• Perform all delegations by the Accounting Officer in terms of the MFMA.
• Lead budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, cash and investment management.
• Advise the Accounting Officer and senior managers on financial powers and duties.
• Manage debt, supply‑chain financial aspects and develop medium‑term financial reviews.
• Ensure efficient auxiliary support services and robust financial systems.

Required profile

• Recognised three‑year B degree in Accounting, Economics or a related finance field.
• Certificate in Municipal Financial Management Programme (or equivalent within 18 months of appointment).
• Minimum 5 years senior management experience, preferably in local government.
• Valid driver’s licence and computer literacy.
• Registration with a recognised professional body is strongly recommended.
