Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer – Nuclear Physics

About the role
The Department of Physics at the University of Johannesburg seeks an experienced academic leader in Nuclear Physics or Applied Nuclear Physics. The role involves teaching, research, administration and community engagement to advance the department's strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, develop curricula, and supervise research students.
- Lead an internationally recognised research programme, secure external funding, and manage collaborations with national and international nuclear facilities.
- Participate in departmental governance, coordinate academic programmes, and manage laboratory resources.
- Develop industry and community partnerships, promote public understanding of nuclear science, and represent the university at professional forums.
Required profile
- PhD in Nuclear Physics, Applied Nuclear Physics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated record of high‑impact publications and successful supervision of MSc/PhD students.
- Experience attracting external research funding and establishing national/international collaborations.
- Proven ability to conduct research at major nuclear facilities and analyse experimental data.
- University‑level teaching experience and evidence of academic leadership.
Required skills
- Proficiency with ROOT for data analysis.
- Proficiency with RadWare or equivalent analysis platforms.
- Experimental nuclear physics techniques.
- Computational nuclear physics modelling.
