Utilities Process Artisan

About the role

The Utilities Process Artisan is responsible for operating the process area at Newlands Brewery, performing non‑destructive quality checks, and carrying out routine maintenance. The role focuses on asset care, waste recording, and continuous improvement of process performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the process area according to work instructions, perform quality checks, and record waste and performance data.
• Execute routine cleaning, lubrication, inspection and maintenance tasks, escalating larger issues to the team leader.
• Apply problem‑solving techniques (5 why, quick‑fix routines) to resolve process disruptions and document corrective actions.
• Participate in shift meetings, use communication tools (logbooks, gap lists) and support team goals.
• Analyse run/control charts and trend data to identify waste, variation and improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Strong ability to solve problems on FMCG machinery and communicate technical knowledge to operators.
• Team‑player with self‑management skills, able to work shifts with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to safety, 5S principles and continuous improvement culture.

Required skills

• Mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge (Grade 12 N4 level).
• Millwright or electrical trade certification.
• Familiarity with PLC bus systems (Profibus, Canbus, Ethernet, Ethercat).
• Experience with camera technology and related algorithms.
• Proficiency in using tablets, laptops and electronic data‑capture devices.
• Use of quality‑control tools and problem‑solving methods (5 why, fishbone, PDCA, SDCA).
