Technical Breakdown Manager

About the role

Our client, a leading transport and logistics company in South Africa’s bulk‑haulage sector, is looking for a proactive Technical Breakdown Manager. You will own the end‑to‑end breakdown process for a large fleet of heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, ensuring minimal downtime and cost‑effective repairs.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all vehicle breakdowns from initial notification to final resolution.
• Coordinate repairs with suppliers, workshops, technicians and service providers.
• Arrange roadside assistance and vehicle recovery when required.
• Continuously follow up on active breakdowns until repairs are completed.
• Monitor fleet downtime and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring issues.
• Obtain quotations and control repair costs to ensure cost‑effective maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, repairs and maintenance activities.
• Work closely with Operations, Workshop and Technical teams to minimise operational disruptions.
• Identify recurring mechanical problems and recommend preventative solutions.
• Be available after hours, weekends and public holidays for urgent emergencies.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• Previous experience in breakdown management within the transport or logistics industry.
• Strong technical knowledge of heavy‑duty trucks and trailers.
• Proven ability to manage emergencies calmly and efficiently.
• Willingness to work outside regular hours when required.

What we offer

• Permanent contract with a competitive net salary of R45,000 per month (approx. R60,633 CTC).
• Standard Monday‑to‑Friday hours (07:00‑17:00) with after‑hours on‑call responsibilities.
