About the role

Amazon is looking for passionate Software Development Engineers to join its South Africa Development Centre. You will work on scalable, cloud‑native services that impact millions of customers worldwide, owning the full lifecycle from design to production.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.
• Develop scalable solutions using microservices and cloud‑native architectures in a large distributed environment.
• Participate in code reviews, write clean, maintainable code, and contribute to technical documentation.
• Maintain resilient, fault‑tolerant systems and ensure cost‑effective operations.
• Leverage GenAI and AI‑powered tools to improve development productivity.
• Work in an agile setting practicing CI/CD and handle on‑call operational duties.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 24 months) from a Bachelor’s or higher program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields.
• Demonstrated experience with at least one general‑purpose programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, TypeScript).
• Experience implementing data structures, basic algorithms, and object‑oriented design principles.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Required skills
