Senior Legal Counsel – Sub‑Saharan Africa Cluster

About the role

Schneider Electric is looking for a commercially‑minded Senior Legal Counsel to support its Sub‑Saharan Africa Cluster from Johannesburg. You will provide strategic legal guidance across multiple markets, helping the business grow while managing risk and ensuring compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day legal counsel to business units, drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements such as sales, supply, services, distribution and partnership contracts.
• Support project and tender activities by assessing contractual risks, reviewing bid documentation and advising on execution strategies.
• Lead legal support for high‑value, complex transactions and advise on regulatory frameworks, licensing and local content obligations across Sub‑Saharan jurisdictions.
• Manage corporate governance matters, statutory compliance, board‑related issues and corporate record‑keeping for local entities.
• Oversee legal disputes, regulatory investigations and coordinate external counsel when required.

Required profile

• Law degree (LLB or equivalent) with admission to the bar or qualification as an attorney/advocate.
• 10‑13 years of professional experience in commercial or corporate law, preferably within industrial, energy, infrastructure or technology sectors.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts and providing legal support in an international company or leading law firm.
• Exposure to legal and regulatory matters across multiple Sub‑Saharan African jurisdictions.

Required skills

• Strong commercial contract drafting, review and negotiation skills.
• Deep knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory compliance and risk‑management principles.
• Ability to manage external counsel across litigation, arbitration, employment and regulatory matters.
• Fluent English communication, both written and verbal.
