Research Pharmacist (Fixed-Term, 2 Years)

About the role

The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation is seeking a Research Pharmacist for a two‑year fixed‑term contract at its REACH project in Philippi Village, South Africa. The role will support the foundation’s mission to advance HIV research, treatment, training and prevention.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the research pharmacies in compliance with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards.
• Oversee proper storage, dispensing, and documentation of investigational products.
• Coordinate with clinical trial teams to ensure timely and accurate pharmacy support.
• Maintain comprehensive records and conduct regular audits.
• Provide assistance to the Community Health Centre pharmacy when required.

Required profile

• Qualified pharmacist registered with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Experience in a clinical research pharmacy or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of South African regulatory requirements and international research guidelines.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site for the duration of the contract.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SAPC regulations.
• Familiarity with SAHPRA requirements.
• Understanding of NIH guidelines.
• Proficiency in Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
• Proficiency in Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP).
