R&D Operator (Fixed-Term)

About the role

The R&D Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a metallurgical section, ensuring that production targets and quality specifications are met. This fixed‑term position involves hands‑on work, continuous monitoring of process variables, and collaboration with junior metallurgists.

Key responsibilities

• Execute and control all physical operational tasks within the assigned section.
• Achieve metallurgical targets safely while adhering to the shift production plan.
• Optimize efficiency and recoveries to produce quality products that meet specifications.
• Liaise with junior metallurgists on process variable changes and maintain process control according to defined recipes.
• Coach and instruct team members on best practices, safety standards, and operational procedures.
• Record, analyse, and report equipment stoppages, breakdowns, and deviations.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Complete required documentation such as risk assessments, inspection sheets, and job cards.
• Assist support services during breakdowns to minimise downtime while ensuring safety compliance.
• Conduct sample preparation and quality test‑work as required.
