Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant

About the role

The Operational Ambulance Emergency Assistant supports Mediclinic’s emergency response service by answering emergency calls and delivering intermediate medical care within the defined scope of practice. This position ensures rapid, safe, and professional assistance to patients in critical situations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain operational readiness of ambulance units for emergency calls.
• Provide patient care in accordance with the Ambulance Emergency Assistant scope of practice and clinical guidelines.
• Promote and uphold a positive public image for the ER24 service.

Required profile

• Ambulance Emergency Assistant Certificate or a Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS); 1 year experience in ILS is desirable.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Application of best practice in emergency care.
• Knowledge of Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) guidelines and scope of practice.
• Familiarity with patient report forms and local facilities, travel routes, and demographic areas.
