Junior People Practitioner

About the role

Takealot.com, South Africa's leading online retailer, is seeking a Junior People Practitioner to join its Customer Service team in Cape Town. This entry‑level HR role supports employees across the full HR lifecycle and helps drive a positive workplace culture.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with managers and employees on performance management, recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations.
• Assist with HR strategy implementation, ensuring alignment with company goals and South African labour legislation.
• Coordinate payroll submissions, benefits administration, and HR reporting.
• Support talent acquisition activities, including job postings, interview scheduling, and participation in career fairs.
• Conduct new‑starter onboarding, draft contracts, and perform 3‑month stay interviews.
• Maintain employee records, HR systems, and documentation for IR incidents.
• Provide ad‑hoc project support and general administrative assistance to the HR team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, HR‑related Business discipline, or Industrial Psychology.
• 1‑2 years of generalist or specialist HR experience.
• Hands‑on experience with recruitment, performance management, employee relations, or learning & development.
• Ability to work in a multi‑stakeholder, fast‑paced environment; customer‑service experience is a plus.
• Good knowledge of South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA).
