Junior Field Technician – Fibre & Wireless Installations

About the role

You will join the Networks team to perform standard fibre and wireless installations, repairs and call‑outs for homes and small businesses. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality service while adhering to health, safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Follow SOPs and health & safety procedures, maintaining accurate documentation.
• Prepare daily jobs by confirming stock, checking equipment and coordinating with the Team Leader and Scheduler.
• Carry out fibre and wireless installations, including CPE setup, cable runs and signal testing.
• Perform fibre troubleshooting (splicing, testing, OTDR use) and wireless troubleshooting (signal strength, bandwidth validation).
• Resolve basic network issues such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing problems.
• Install and configure VoIP systems and upgrade firmware on client equipment.
• Complete job cards, ticket updates and invoicing documentation.
• Work overtime, weekends and emergency call‑outs when required, operating safely at heights and in confined spaces.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Minimum 1 year experience in fibre optic splicing.
• Minimum 1 year experience in RF/wireless installations.
• Basic networking knowledge and computer literacy.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights and lift equipment.

Required skills

• Fibre optic splicing and termination.
• Use of OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.
• RF/Wireless troubleshooting and signal testing.
• Basic network troubleshooting (IP conflicts, firewall, routing).
• VoIP system installation and configuration.
• CPE setup and cable management.
• Hand and power tool operation.
