Head of Emergency Unit

About the role

Mediclinic is seeking a senior clinical leader to head its Emergency Unit. The role provides overall clinical leadership, ensuring safe, patient‑focused care through effective resource utilisation, data‑driven analysis and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead clinical service delivery in the emergency centre.
• Manage, mentor and develop emergency centre practitioners.
• Integrate data, audits and reports to create business solutions.
• Participate actively in company strategies and projects.
• Initiate and drive quality improvement and assurance initiatives.
• Identify and mitigate risks within the emergency centre.

Required profile

• MB BCh/MB ChB and Dip PEC or MSc/MPhil in Emergency Medicine (essential).
• MMed Emergency Medicine or MMed Family Medicine (desired).
• Minimum three years’ experience in a private‑sector emergency centre.
• At least one year of supervisory or managerial experience.

Required skills

• Data management and report writing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Advanced Life Support (cardiac, paediatric, trauma).
• Disaster and major incident management.
• Advanced airway techniques.
• Ultrasound imaging.
• Procedural sedation.
• Knowledge of South African Triage Scale and relevant health legislation.
