Enrolled Nurse – Theatre – Cape Town

About the role

The Enrolled Nurse will provide direct and indirect nursing care within the operating theatre, supporting the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team. This role ensures patient safety, maintains a sterile environment, and assists during surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care according to the Enrolled Nurse scope of practice.
• Prepare the theatre, manage stock, and replenish instruments for each procedure list.
• Maintain aseptic technique when opening packs and handling consumables.
• Assist the scrub nurse and anaesthetist during operations, including patient positioning and induction of anaesthesia.
• Control costs by using supplies and equipment safely and economically.
• Document patient information, update nursing care plans, and record specimen registers.
• Conduct audits of health records to ensure compliance with hospital policies.
• Ensure a safe, clean environment in line with occupational safety regulations.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Enrolled Nurse qualification with current SANC registration.
• Minimum 5 years experience as an Enrolled Nurse, including post‑operative, floor, and anaesthetic nursing.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, patient safety, and infection control.
• Ability to anticipate team needs, solve problems, and communicate effectively.
• Resilience, professional flexibility, and commitment to continuous development.
