Enrolled Nurse – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term at Wits PHRU

About the role

The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) seeks an Enrolled Nurse on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to support clinical trial activities. The role is based at the Chris Hani Baragwanath New Nurses Home in Soweto and involves direct patient interaction, counselling, and study documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide HIV counselling, contraception advice and adherence support to study participants.
• Perform phlebotomy, medication administration (IV and IM), and manage clinic inventory.
• Review clinical data, complete case report forms and ensure proper filing of study documents.
• Maintain compliance with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) SOPs.
• Collaborate with the Study Coordinator and Principal Investigator to optimise clinic operations.

Required profile

• Matric qualification and registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• At least 2 years of experience in a research or clinical trial setting.
• GCP or TRREE certification (preferred).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to work overtime and adapt to changing study requirements.
