Engineer II – Bakeries Technical & Engineering (Cape Town)

About the role

PepsiCo is seeking an Engineer II to lead technical and engineering activities within its bakeries division at the Cape Town headquarters. The role focuses on asset care, equipment reliability, and process optimisation to support production performance and sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, implement and drive the Asset Care Program, including PeMM audits and best‑practice implementation.
• Enable plant and equipment reliability by reducing breakdowns and improving line TE/NE performance.
• Support productivity targets and manage the productivity pipeline for bakery operations.
• Lead capex and opex projects, including equipment upgrades, modifications and the introduction of new technology to enhance quality and throughput.
• Assist with the annual OPEX budget and monitor key performance metrics aligned with PepsiCo’s pep+ strategy.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for plant maintenance, guiding maintenance managers during shutdowns and project execution.
• Conduct proactive and reactive maintenance, technical investigations and implement solutions to improve safety, compliance and equipment performance.

Required profile

• Engineer II level with experience in bakery or food‑processing plant maintenance.
• Proven ability to manage asset care programs and drive reliability initiatives.
• Experience supporting capital and operational expenditure projects and process optimisation.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental standards in an industrial setting.
