Debtors Controller – Accounts Receivable Specialist

About the role

The Debtors Controller will lead the accounts receivable function for a well‑established organisation in Johannesburg. You will be responsible for timely collection of outstanding debts, maintaining accurate debtor records and supporting cash‑flow objectives. The role requires strong attention to detail, proactive credit control and excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full debtors book and implement collection strategies to minimise overdue balances.
• Follow up with customers via phone, email and written communication, resolve payment disputes and escalate high‑risk accounts.
• Allocate payments, reconcile debtor accounts daily/monthly and maintain up‑to‑date ledger records.
• Prepare monthly debtor statements, age analysis reports and provide collection performance updates to management.
• Collaborate with sales, operations and finance teams to ensure smooth cash‑flow reporting.
• Ensure compliance with credit policies, maintain documentation and support audit requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements within the accounts receivable function.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field (advantageous).
• 3–5 years’ experience in debtors, credit control or accounts receivable.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP).
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Syspro, Oracle or Pastel.
