Assistant Financial Officer

About the role

The Assistant Financial Officer will support financial management across the Nedbank Group by processing transactions, monitoring performance, and preparing budgets and reports. This role ensures good governance and financial control while building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to cost‑saving initiatives and team performance improvements.
• Maintain client satisfaction by responding promptly to queries and ad‑hoc requests.
• Validate accuracy of general ledger (GL) and database (DB) entries and allocate them correctly.
• Process staff claims, prepare VAT uploads and forward them to Group Finance.
• Prepare variance reports comparing budget/forecast to actuals and provide commentary.
• Perform daily bank reconciliations and monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Review invoice validity, capture invoices in the P2P system and obtain approvals.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and three‑year plans in collaboration with team leaders.
• Manage asset registers and process capex purchase orders.
• Stay updated on relevant legislation and support corporate social responsibility initiatives.
• Identify and recommend process, system and policy enhancements.

Required profile

• NQF Level Diploma (preferred Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or Banking).
• 2‑4 years of experience, including 1‑2 years in a financial services environment.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, administrative procedures and banking operations.
